How we as Internal Auditors deal with stress can often determine how well we perform. We’re all acutely aware of the health ramifications of poor stress management, but consider how stress could affect your career if you cannot perform well as an auditor. Managing stress involves knowing yourself and how you’re likely to behave while under stress.
I tend to get angry (especially toward the one who caused my stress). One of my bosses summed it up for me as follows: “Don’t be the one to throw the first punch.” Knowing when stress is affecting me and being sure I manage my behavior during those times is critical. I manage my behavior by managing my thoughts.
